MuMu goes topless

I finally decided to do something about the rust that was starting in the rear of MuMu. This is a pretty common place for FJ40's to rust due to the channel that runs along the back. It is basically a holding place for sand, water and whatever.

I found a body shop off of a web site called http://www.sandcruiser.com named Euro_Tek that came highly recommended. I drove down and met Joel who quoted me close to $7000 to fully restore MuMu (ouch).

Well to make a long story short I decided to let Joel restore MuMu in stages.
I took MuMu home,
and took off the fiberglass top and metal sides. Big Job !! It took me a full day and a lots of cussing but I finally got it off. My reasoning for doing this was "less metal to fix, cheaper repair job", plus I always wanted to drive around in a convertible FJ40.

Maybe someday I will have the top and sides restored but for now I decided just to worry about the body. Who knows?, I may actually forget about the fiberglass top and sides and buy a soft top.

A month later I brought it back to Joel who then quoted my about $3000 to restore the body and passenger door. This I could handle a little better so off she went.
